creature of the stage" by Opera News, soprano Sari Gruber's voice has been
described as "luminous" and "show-stopping great," while
her vibrant and passionate portrayals have "lit up the stage" in
repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary works. A prized artist on
American and international stages alike, she has garnered praise for her "shining
soprano and vibrant presence" (Opera News), her "direct
musicality" (New York Times), as well as her "detailed, charming,
resourceful and sympathetic" characterizations (Boston Herald). Highlights
of her operatic career include leading roles with New York City Opera, Lyric
Opera of Chicago, De Nederlandse Opera, Maggio Musicale di Firenze, Saito Kinen
Festival, Ongaku-Juku (Japan), Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, Opera Company
of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Boston Lyric
Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Hawaii Opera Theatre, and many other
regional opera companies in the U.S., in repertoire such as Susanna in Le nozze
di Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Musetta in La
Bohème, and Leïla in Pearl Fishers.
Ms. Gruber has appeared in concert with Boston Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Handel and Haydn Society, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Boston Baroque, Pacific Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Buffalo Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, San Jose Symphony, New York City Ballet, Portland Baroque Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. She has sung under the baton of Seiji Ozawa, Jane Glover, John Mauceri, Patrick Summers, Harry Bicket, Stefan Lano, Stuart Bedford, among others. Winner of the coveted Naumburg Competition in 2005, Ms. Gruber keeps a very active recital schedule, appearing in recital at New York's Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), New York Festival of Song, San Francisco Performances, Skaneateles Festival, as well as on recital series from coast to coast. Ms. Gruber holds an M.M. in Voice from The Juilliard School, a B.A. from Yale University, and attended high school at The Webb Schools of California. |
