Neil Garber, Double Bass

Originally from New York City, Neil Garber began his studies with Donald Palma. After attending the High School for the Performing Arts, he earned a Bachelors and Master’s degree from The Juilliard School where he studied with Homer Mensch. He also has a certificate in Advanced Studies from USC.

Mr. Garber’s extensive performance credits on Broadway, recordings, and film scores are matched by his performing experience with orchestras such as the New York City Opera, American Symphony Orchestra, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, Stamford Symphony, Martha Graham Dance Company, Kirov Ballet, and the Royal Ballet of London.

Now at home in California, Mr. Garber is the Assistant Principal Bass of the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra, Principal Bass of Opera Santa Barbara, and the double bass instructor on the faculty of the Music Department at UC Santa Barbara. He is also an active freelance bassist in the Santa Barbara and Los Angeles areas, performing with varied groups including Los Angeles Opera, Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, and Santa Barbara Oratorio Society.
